How Do I Restore Windows Registry to Freshen Up My Computer System?

The most dreaded problem of computers is crashing. Some people understand that when a computer crashes, it cannot be used anymore or needs to be reformatted. Reformatting can be a good choice if you see that your computer is about to crash but doing it frequently can lessen the longevity of your hard disk because you would be subjecting your hard disk to very hard work. However, you can do an easier task to make your "crashing" system to return to its former state by means of restoring its recent working registry.Having to restore windows registry is one of the most effective methods in restoring the computer to its unaltered state.

Moreover, you must be aware that once you do restore windows registry, some of the software you have installed previously will most likely to disappear or will not work efficiently. This is because you will be restoring your computer to its previous state when there was no software installed. By other way saying it, you will be restoring your computer to its default state. However, you should not worry about losing some of your software if you still have your software installation CD. Losing data files must not worry you either for they will be left untouched by the restoration.

So how could you restore windows registry? Just follow these easy step-by-step instructions and you will be on your way in having a refreshed windows registry.

1. Just to be sure, you have to backup your data files by transferring them to secured storage like your flash drive or burn them to your CD.

2. Close your windows and power it on again. When the disk is booting, press F8 before the message will show the message "Starting Windows...". Select the command prompt and type these commands in sequence. This should restore your registry to its former state.

cd c:\windows - (this changes your directory to Windows)
attrib user.dat -h -r
attrib system.dat -h -r
cd c:\backup
copy user.dat c:\windows(this will copy file to backup folder)
copy system.dat c:\windows (also for backing up folder)
copy win.ini c:\windows
copy system.ini c:\windows
cd c:\windows (this will change directory to Windows)
attrib user.dat +h +r (gives attributes back to file)
attrib system.dat +h +r

If you can type these codes without any mistake then presumably you can have a successful restored windows registry. You can now power on your computer and see if the problems in your computer are now fixed. Some people use this restore windows registry system when their computer starts to slow down or looks like the system will likely to crash down. Computer viruses, malware, and adware are the main causes of system malfunction and the bad news is, not all of these can be eliminated by anti-virus software because they can be able to hide and disguised as legitimate files. Another problem that can cause slow computer and computer crash is clogged registry. When we uninstalled unwanted software or programs from our hard disk, remains of these software may linger in the registry. These remains may accumulate in time and cause conflict to the registry's operation.

Sometimes registry cleaners are effective in eliminating these unwanted remains but you have to buy a reliable cleaner. So, if viruses, malware and clogged registry come upon your windows' registry, most likely you will have a very slow computer and even a system crash. If you still cannot fully eliminate problems in your computer, then formatting your hard disk can be the last option.

Marcus Franco recommends you use professional registry fix software to scan, fix and clean your PC registry. Here's a free registry scan.

Teaching Kids About Money and Prosperity

Once I got started developing my own life and my own thinking, I wanted to make sure that my children were also educated with enough information that they too could sail through life.

Ultimately, my first tip is the most powerful. My children will learn to sail through life with me being a positive role model in their lives and through the changes that I am making. I am passing the knowledge on to my children and this is beautiful because I don't have to do anything except continue on with my own journey of personal discovery.

There are also primary school level books that can help with equipping youngsters with extra skills that aren't taught in school such as how to sail through life. The first is 'Unstoppable Me! - 10 Ways to Soar Through Life' by Dr Wayne Dyer with Kristina Tracy and the second is 'It's Not What You've Got! - Lessons for Kids on Money and Abundance' also by Dr Wayne Dyer with Kristina Tracy. This is my second tip and obviously is not restricted to only these books. I recommend these books for upper levels of primary school where there is some understanding of prosperity.

Younger children are very tuned into any messages that we send as parents. For example, when the children ask for yet more toys, I started out saying what I heard my parents say when we used to ask for more toys from the toy catalogue which was 'We don't have enough money'. However, this reason is not accurate in that of course we do have money as my son pointed out. (He pointed out that I had $20 in my purse at the time.) It would be more accurate to say that we choose to spend our money in our ways and to put in place some limits around the amount of money that can be spent on toys.

Hence, I now take a different approach. I have learnt to ask why it is really needed and I add in numeracy lessons by looking at how much things cost, how much money each child has in their piggy bank and then looking at how long it might take to save up and get that larger thing that they desire. My own anecdotal observations show that the success of this strategy depends on many things including personality and disposition of the child and birth order. This is my third tip.

5 Tips to Improve Your Computer Speed

Spending a little amount of money for your PC to improve speed would be a great sacrifice on your part like buying a bigger hard disk, higher memory or faster processor. However, there are some tips to increase and improve the speed of your computer without spending a single cent.

1. Run Defragmentation

According to Wikipedia defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file systems. It does this by physically organizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously

Basically, it gathers same files and takes the moved files to line up with each other to give more space on your hard drive. Most of the users have reported a dramatic boost of the speed after running the defragmentation process.

2. Get rid of the garbage.

Throw the garbage - a simple task but really effective. Empty your Recycle Bin. Double check all the files that you have deleted maybe some of your important files are in the Recycle Bin before deleting everything. Otherwise, it will take time to restore these important files.

3. Make your Windows start quicker.

Organize your Windows Start up - disable some programs which automatically start when you turn on your computer. Be sure that you have an idea what programs you want to automatically run or you do not want to run.

4. Use a disk utility to remove temporary files.

Run Disk Utility or Clean Drive to remove temporary files - it will delete all the temporary files on your computer. Thus, it will give you additional space on your hard drives.

5. Set your virtual memory to one size

This process is fine, except when using very large files and your computer may slow down noticeably. One avenue to change this and ensure that this does not happen is to set your virtual memory minimum and maximum to the same size, and set it to 1.5 times the amount of physical memory in your PC.

Let us go and see the overall steps.

Step 1
Before jumping into formatting, you should backup every file and data you were working with to a secondary storage media. It can be CD/DVD or external hard disk. Note that you cannot backup installed programs and applications. These should be reinstalled after you finish the installation of the operating system.

The second step is to prepare your installation and hardware drivers CD. You may think that the installation CD is enough for the formatting process. However, your computer hardware drivers are important when you start to install other applications.
All components such as graphics card, network card, modem, sound card and other peripherals need their own drivers. If you do not have a CD for these components, you must consult your computer seller or manufacturer to get one. You can also download drivers from their web page.

Step 3
After finishing the above steps, you can start to format hard drive. To do this, you must start your computer from a start up CD.

Firstly, Insert Windows CD and restart the computer.
This will boot the computer from a CD. If it fails to start from a CD, you need to arrange the boot sequence on your computer "BIOS" setting. Pressing "F1" or "F2" or "Delete" key will easily get you to your computer basic input/output setting. Your CD ROM should be first in the sequence.

When you restart the computer, you will see a message on a screen. The message asks you to press any key to start from the CD. You should press any key on the keyboard to start the installation.

Secondly, if you properly arranged the sequence, a welcome blue screen will show up. You can continue the process by pressing "ENTER" key.

Thirdly, You should accept the Licensing Agreement by pressing "F8".

Once you get here, you can continue the rest of the process without help. You just read each screen message and follow accordingly. As you may already guess, it is quite easy to format hard drive. I hope this article gives you start up information to launch the formatting right away.

If you want to have more information, you may take a minute to visit Learn about computer parts page.

Here, you can get a free guide to format hard drive. It shows each step with screen shots.

8 Steps Show You How to Safely Lose Weight and Keep it Off Every Single Time

The very best way to safely lose weight, and keep it off, is by changing your lifestyle. All of the diet plans, diet pills, and diet programs promise to help you shed the weight, but they are not always safe or effective. And most who do lose the weight end up putting it right back on.

Here are 8 steps that can help you be successful with your weight loss.

1) Think positively.
Do not dwell on what you are sacrificing or giving up to lose weight. Instead, concentrate on the positive things you are gaining.

2) Make a Commitment.
You must be committed to losing weight because it is something you want to do for yourself, and not for someone else. The only one who can lose your weight is you. Your doctor, or a registered dietitian can help you find a plan for your body.

3) Set a realistic weight loss goal.
Do not aim for an unrealistic weight loss goal that meets the society ideals of what is thin. Try instead to comfortably lose weight that you may have maintained as a young adult. If you were always overweight, then aim for a weight that will improve any health problems that have resulted from being overweight.

4) Get your priorities right.
Timing is everything, so do not try to lose weight while you are distracted by other problems. It takes quite a bit of mental and physical energy to change habits, so if you are having financial and/or family troubles, this might not be the best time to focus on losing weight.

5) Realize what your habits are.
If you tend to eat when you are angry, tired, bored, depressed, or under stress, try these solutions:

* Before you eat anything, ask yourself if you really want it.
* Distract yourself from eating by running an errand, or phoning a friend.
* If you are feeling angry or distressed, take a brisk walk to work those feelings off.

6) Do not starve yourself.
Diet pills and liquid meals are not the long-term answer to weight control and good health. The best way to lose weight is to eat nutritious foods. Eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and eat fewer foods containing sugar and fat. Cutting calories too much will cause you to be hungry all the time, which will lead to overeating binges.

7) Increase your overall activity level.
Dieting alone will help you lose weight, but by incorporating exercise into your daily routine, you can actually speed up your weight loss. Exercise is the most important factor to losing weight and keeping that weight off.

8) Stay committed.
There will be occasional setbacks, and they will weaken your commitment to lose weight. If you find yourself starting to fall back into the old, bad habits of before, go back to the strategies you used to break those habits in the first place.

It is not enough just to eat nutritious foods and exercise for a few weeks or months. Losing weight and keeping it off has to come from a lifestyle change that you can life a lifetime with.

Best Diet Plan To Keep Weight Off

Have you ever known someone who got excited about their latest diet, only to fall off of the wagon a few weeks later due to hunger and frustration? Maybe you've been in that situation yourself. Certainly, many of us have.

Here's some good news: It is possible to find a diet plan you won't give up on and so keep the weight off; it just takes a little research and planning. To get started, follow these helpful tips for lasting diet satisfaction:

Tip 1: Diets must satisfy your hunger.

Hunger is the number one reason for diet failure. It's nearly impossible to stick to a plan that leaves you hungry all the time. You will find your thoughts turning to high-calorie foods quite often, and you won't have a lot of energy or patience.

As long as you are coming close to your calorie requirement each day, your hunger level should stay manageable. Avoid any diet that reduces your calories dramatically. Experts recommend eating between 1,200 and 2,000 calories a day for weight loss.

If you're eating a reasonable amount but not feeling satisfied, you might want to add more protein, fiber, and unsaturated fats to your diet. These foods help satiate you, and leave you feeling fuller longer.

Tip 2: Diets must include foods you enjoy.

While you might need to make some adjustments to your usual eating plan, you don't want to depart too radically from the norm. You need a diet that incorporates the food groups you enjoy most.

For example, if you love fruit and whole grains, you might want to avoid low-carb diets. If you're more of a carnivore, you won't be satisfied with a vegetarian diet. Fortunately, there are reasonably healthy diets to suit every palate.

Tip 3: Diets must include a variety of foods.

A funny thing happens when we eat the same things over and over again: Our cravings decrease, and we tend to eat less food per sitting.

If this were a long-term effect, it would be easy to follow monotonous diets. However, the effect wanes over time, and feelings of deprivation set in.

From a health standpoint, variety is key. Our bodies are omnivorous, and they work best when they receive fuel from many different sources.

Eating lots of different foods also keeps you from getting bored with the diet and makes you less likely to abandon it.

Tip 4: Diets must be easy to follow.

It's hard enough keeping track of your calories or carbs each day, but some diets will have you counting points, weighing your food at every meal, and trying out bizarre food combinations to maximize weight loss.

All weight loss can be boiled down to one simple truth: To lose weight, you simply need to burn more calories than you eat. There is no need to make elaborate preparations or to measure every morsel that passes your lips.

Learn to estimate portion sizes on sight. For example, a baked potato serving is about the size of a computer mouse. An ounce of cheese is about the size of three dice stacked together.

You can go online to find more examples of easy portion estimators.

Familiarize yourself with the calorie content of the foods you eat most frequently. With an accurate idea of the calorie content and proper portion sizes of these foods, you will easily stay within your allotted calories for the day.

Tip 5: Diets must not break your budget.

Diets that involve pre-packaged meals, shakes, bars, and supplements can get very expensive very fast. Many dieters abandon these plans because they feel the results aren't worth the price.

Choose a diet plan that uses regular foods you can purchase at the grocery store. You'll avoid the extra cost (and often the extra sugar, sodium, and chemical flavor enhancers) that pre-packaged diet foods entail.

Tip 6: Diets must promote long-term health.

For life-long success, you need a diet you can stick to for life. The plan should be a healthy one that provides abundant nutrition and doesn't place unrealistic restrictions on the foods you can eat.

Remember: Variety is the spice of life, and that includes healthy lifestyle changes. Monitor the foods you eat, but do indulge on special occasions.

Change up your meals frequently to avoid boredom, and add exercise to make your body the healthiest it can be.

Start with small, sustainable changes. Soon, you won't even feel like you're on a diet. Your new habits will become the norm, and you will simply be eating in a way that will keep you slim and healthy for life.

Preparing For Ramadan - 5 Tips - Quick Guide

Asalaam and Hello !

Today the quick guide is on ... ' Preparing for Ramadan ' !

I hope we all are getting ready to prepare for the best of month in a year - Ramadan

Its only a matter of a few days now and Insha-Allah ( God-willing) we will return to the month of reflection and focus where great rewards can be attained.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, here are 5 tips that can prepare us for the coming days of our heart welcoming...Ramadan.

1) You could try fasting a few days earlier - If you are strong enough and have the ability, so your body gets used to the month of Ramadan but if you would rather wait and start on the first day of Ramadan then that too is excellent and rewarding.

2) Get In-touch with your family and friends - ( I know most of us are having problems in our generation - lol - My family is 1 but we have to remember that 1 of the minor signs of Judgement day is that family ties breaking up ) So Insha-Allah be the 1 with the big heart and atleast smile at relatives and friends and talk about the coming of Ramadan, so the build up gets exciting.

3) Get In-touch with your Masjid ! - Ah ! believe me brothers and sisters the best link you can have is staying in touch with your local Masjid (Mosque). 1) You will get a timetable of when to start and finish your fast according to the time frame in your area. 2) You will be given a time of when Taraweeh - (Ramdan nightly sunnah prayer ) will commence. 3) The most important 1 - you can establish a good relationship with your local Imam and its a duty of a Imam to lead and help the muslim community. Yup !

4) Take some days off work - Yesss your Job will Insha-Allah still be there but if you miss out on regular prayer and some Taraweeh prayers then that should be a heartful regret dear brother and sisters. So if possible ( dont fight with your boss as you might get fired - lol ) get permission to take some days off during Ramadan so you can be fit to pray and attend taraweeh prayers and also share a beautiful Ramadan experiance when getting together at the family table for Iftari. ( Ahhh Allah hu akbar ! - The best feeling during Ramadan ... Unity ! )

5) Encourage each other - '' Surely mankind is in great loss except those who exhort each other to good'' - ( Holy- Qur'an ) ... '' Love for ya brother for what you would love for yourself '' - Prophet Muhammad(saw). Brothers and Sisters in Islam ! Did our Allah(swt) put a heart in our bodies or a piece of rock ? Our Allah(swt) gave us a heart brothers and sisters - Lets use this heart and help and not compete. We made our hearts so firm that we love competing against each other. Well let me tell you this life is so short and we will go to our graves and you dont want to regret some thoughts and feelings when you get to a old-age and experiance the coming of death - forget that ! we could die tommorow... Its true is it not ? So stop that grudge and stop turning backs on each other. BRING BACK THE PROPHETS UMMAH ' WHERE WE STOOD SHOULDER TO SHOULDER AND SAID '' YOU WHATTTT TO THE WORLD AND THE THE DEVIL WHO DECIEVES US'' . WE ARE MUSLIMS - AL-HUMDU-LILLAH ! HELP EACH OTHER LIKE THE 1 BODY OF THE UMMAH WE ARE - INSHA-ALLAH ! - DONT DO IT FOR OTHERS BUT DO IT FOR THE SAKE OF ISLAM !!!

May Allah(swt) keep us alive for the coming days of Ramadan so we can attain more good deeds before our last breath. - Ameen !

Also Believer1984 and Team would like to congratulate all brothers and sisters for keeping the 15th of sha'ban fast. So Mubarak on that and Insha-Allah lets start preparing for Ramadan .

Peace.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the act when Muslims all over the world must ritually fast and abstain from certain acts or foods and liquids which are prohibited during this holy time of year. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam which all Muslims are expected to follow, the other four pillars of Islam are Faith (Shahadah); Prayer (Salah), Charitable Giving (Zakah), and the holy Pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj). Ramadan takes place during the 9th month in the Islamic calendar and will therefore differ from year to year when using the more common 12 month calendar than the Islamic lunar calendar. Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the new moon.

Fasting begins from sunrise to sunset. When a Muslim first begins to fast they will tend to wake up before sunrise to eat, this is known as Sehri or Suhoor. Often in Muslim households, there will be a generous breakfast before sunrise, as eating and drinking is not allowed. When sunset approaches and it is nearing the time for the fast to be opened some Muslims will gather to have Iftari parties to open their fasts together. Families come together and even extended families so this is also a great time for get together. It is customary to open your fasts with dates as this was what the Prophet Mohammed (PBH) is said to have eaten to open his fast with.

Fasting is much more than denying yourself food or drinks. It is a time of spiritual reflection and prayer. During this month Muslims will be thinking of others who are less fortunate than themselves, those from all over the world who have extreme difficulty even finding food or are in poverty. Muslims should also spend this time reflecting about their religion and what it means to them. Prayer is important during Ramadan and is used to focus a Muslims spiritual belief towards their God and pray for thanks for all that they have and for others all over the world who are less fortunate as no matter how badly you may feel that your present circumstances may be, there will always be someone worse off.

Some guidelines for fasting during the holy month of Ramadan:

1. No eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset
2. No chewing gum
3. No smoking (or other type of drugs or alcohol which is not permitted any ways in Islam)
4. No sexual contact
5. Not allowed for women during menstrual period
6. Not required of the mentally ill or those of physical ill health
7. Not partaking in activities which are considered haram
8. Not required of children until they reach puberty

Helpful advice for fasting during the holy month of Ramadan:

1. It is advisable to drink plenty of water before starting your fasts
2. Try to avoid strenuous exercise that could cause you to perspire too much. Without the ability to drink to replenish the liquid lost you will be endangering your health which could cause you to even faint or feel physically unwell. Exercise in the evening after you open your fasts.
3. Avoid foods such as potato chips (crisps) or other salty or dry foods which could cause you to get very thirsty later in the day
4. Avoid direct sunlight when possible as perspiration could cause you to get very thirsty or make you faint/ unwell.

When Ramadan has finished and the fasting has ceased, Eid ul Fitr is celebrated. It is anticipated all month and is celebrated differently all over the world but the general feelings are on family and the local religious community. Usually families will gather at the house of the senior member of the family and gifts of cash or clothes are given to the children. As the festivities carry on through out the day and night, this will mark the end of a very special time of the year in the Muslim calendar.

Obama Urged to Address World's Muslims From US Mosque

President Barack Obama pledged to address Muslims from a Muslim country within 100 days of taking office. But delivering the speech in a mosque on U.S. soil promises a bigger impact. Muslim Americans support efforts to improve relations with Muslims overseas. But the president also must engage Muslims at home. We need him to be our president, too.

He could begin by making his address to Muslims worldwide from a mosque on American soil. Why not Masjid Al-Fatir, the mosque in the president's Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago?

Muhammad Ali, the former heavyweight boxing champion, built that mosque. He's an American Muslim respected throughout the Muslim world. The president never visited an American mosque during his campaign. Because of anti-Muslim bigotry, he felt it necessary to keep a public distance from American Muslims. Terrorists and extremists who "defend" violence against the United States in the name of Islam fuel fear, bigotry and negative Muslim stereotypes. Their killings and disregard for human life is an affront to all, most especially to American Muslims.

Muslims are grateful for the steps President Obama has taken to lessen the hostilities abroad. He banned torture, ordered the closing of Guantanamo Bay and the CIA's secret interrogation centers. He also appointed special envoys to three trouble spots in the Muslim world. He gave his first television interview after taking office to Middle Eastern station.

The last presidential administration treated American Muslims as virtual enemies of the state, discouraged our civic involved and suppressed our voices. We were isolated and rendered invisible. Isolating the terrorists and extremists is an urgent task with which no one disagrees. But it's vital to U.S. interests to engage American Muslims as partners in building relationships with the Muslim world. This is not only a matter of respect, but a matter of our common interests.

American Muslims are a global village made up of diverse communities of African Americans and immigrants from many nations. Among Muslims, they are one of the largest groups of highly educated professionals in the world.
Tens of thousands are physicians and surgeons. Others serve in higher education. Many proudly serve in the U.S. military. I personally know at least six Muslims in Chicago who played critical roles in key Muslim governments. Many are directly connected with the ruling elites of the countries of their birth.

Part of the change that American Muslims hope for is to be valued as an asset by their country rather than viewed as a liability. We long for a president who will welcome our voices and our public service. Nearly 3,000 prayer locations, mosques and Islamic centers serve an estimated six million Muslims in the United States. We invite our president to stand with us publicly and vigorously battle against Islamophobia -- the bigotry he tasted during his campaign and we experience daily.

The choice of a U.S. mosque for the president's address would affirm what he stated at his inauguration: that Muslims are part of the fabric of our nation. More importantly, it would acknowledge that the key to repairing relations between America and the Muslim world are those who know both best: American Muslims.

Diagnose System Errors Hardware Or Software

Severe difficulties have severe causes, and identifying those causes is an essential part in the recovery practice. The good thing is, the number of causative factors is reasonably narrow. We have now determined four events that induce the majority substantial Computer system situations: computer system distress, computer data loss or corruption, inaccurate configurations, and program or equipment failure.

(1) System distress. Personal computers have physical limits. Memory capacity, storage total capacity, and processing capabilities determine the most important of those limitations. Should you try to propel a Personal computer outside of its restrictions, you significantly add to the likelihood of encountering a critical difficulty. The computer system possibly will freeze, generate error messages, or freeze.

Sometimes, system distress is a minor problem from which you'll recover merely by rebooting the PC. But now and again the stress becomes established, for example when there are too many software packages inside the Startup folder. In those situations, a small situation turns into a significant one that manifests itself each and every time you attempt to use your PC.

(2) Data loss or corruption. The performance of one's computer is determined by the integrity of billions of binary digits, labelled bits, all of which are represented as electronic pulses on the magnetized platter inside the hard drive. If just one of these bits were to bite the dust, you could end up with software programs which don't perform, a computer system that does not start, hardware that doesn't respond, along with other substantial Personal computer predicaments. Does that scare you? It ought to, particularly when you consider the collection of possible risks.

Data loss and corruption could possibly result from computer software glitches, user operating mistakes, computer system stress, and typical deterioration to the computer hardware. And then you will discover computer system malware, self-replicating bits of program code that infect Computers and wreak all sorts of destruction, and this includes data destruction. Infections, together with equally malevolent worms and Trojan horses, account for the most severe risk to your data because the injury should be able to spread so swiftly and quietly.

Anti-virus software programs are a security staple. If you do not possess an anti-virus application program installed on your personal computer, download and install a free, streamlined program or buy a full-featured version immediately.

(3) Incorrect settings. The computer's system configurations are just like driving directions: They have to be precise and comprehensive in order for the Computer system to take you where you need to go. Microsoft optimizes the OS' (operating system's) standard settings for the most suitable functionality, but these options change while you use and modify your personal machine and its contents. A application installation can lead to alterations in the Windows Registry, for example, whereas a wish for bigger functioning efficiency may well encourage one to upgrade the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) settings manually.

The aim of changing any options is increased overall performance. Often times though, that may not necessarily come about. Inaccurate configurations could certainly prevent you from starting a favorite software program, accessing the network or the Internet, or even starting up your computer. The cure is straightforward: Restore the controls to a working configuration. That's much easier said than done, however, especially should you not know which options was the cause of the issue.

(4) Computer software and hardware malfunction. All of your Computers devices have essential roles to play. You can't expect to obtain optimum functionality from a computer hobbled by hardware and software failures.

Software commonly fails as a result of coding flaws or inappropriate installment. Hardware components fail from typical deterioration or perhaps some form of compatibility mismatch with the remainder of the computer system. What ever the cause of the software or computer hardware failure, you need to definitely determine the failure and repair it if you would like your personal machine to operate as it should. Look out for the indicator symptoms, notably unresponsive hardware devices as well as error messages indicating that your software is not working properly.

Crash Management

After identifying that you may have a serious System problem on your hands, you should limit the destruction and make repairs. Thats usually where circumstances might get tricky, as few personal computer problems have distinct conditions and clear remedies. To help you out in your endeavor, we formulated a step-by-step tool to guide you with the operation of getting the computer back to normal.

- Assess your situation. Exactly what occurred? That is what you will need to figure out. Start out by identifying the signs that exposed the presence of a problem. Was it an error message? If that's the case, jot it down word for word. Did your computer freeze up or just crash? If that's the case, make a note of what you were engaging in at the time the personal computer ceased working. The greater detail you are able to supply here, the better.

Substantial problems which crop up when you remove a program from the Personal computer may be as a result of errors which happened during the un-install. You may be able to improve the situation through reinstalling the software followed by applying Vista's Uninstall Or Change A Program utility to uninstall the program once again.

While you're at it, take the time to recall all the recent system adjustments. The addition of new program or hardware, the removal of old software programs or computer hardware, and modifications to system controls might cause a number of PC issues.

- Treat the conspicuous. Attempting a significant repair to your computer with out first checking for unplugged cords, loose cable connections, along with other obvious problem areas is similar to scheduling a lobotomy to cure a headache with out first taking two aspirin to find out whether or not that relieves the pain. Always, always, always try the free and easy remedy previous to proceeding with one that's pricey and difficult.

- Give it the reboot. One more thing it's best to do in reaction to a PC issue is reboot the computer. Or if the personal computer didn't start the first time around, you need to make an effort to boot the computer again. The way the Computer reacts to this particular attempt reveals a lot relating to the magnitude of this situation. In case the PC starts the way it should, you may be coping with a small problem. If the personal computer fails to boot or if it boots but does not run the way it should, you most likely have a serious issue.

In case the PC does not start at all, you have two choices for gaining access to computer data. You can either start laptop computer in Safe Mode or boot the computer by using a bootable diskette.

- Look over the guide. The typical users guide has a troubleshooting section that identifies frequent conditions and provides appropriate remedies. A similarly worthwhile resource for trouble shooting help is the product's Frequently asked questions, which often you should be able to search for on the net at the computer hardware manufacturer or software application developer's Web page.

Even if these resources do not include a solution to your particular situation, some may give you guidance that might target your troubleshooting attempts in the proper direction.

- Exterminate infections. Trojans may be one of the most insidious issues since they continue to replicate until you get rid of them from the personal computer. Discovering them thus remains a top top priority whenever trouble shooting your Personal computer. You'll need a little help accomplishing that, however, as numerous malware are meant to operate underneath the radar until after they cause significant damage. We would suggest running an up-to-date antivirus tool to scan the contents of your Computers many storage hard disks for the presence of harmful program code.

The System Configuration Utility permits you to modify system configurations easily and quickly. Give it a try before making wholesale alterations in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or Registry.

- Fix computer software. Software-related issues fall into four categories: those you can easily address by reinstalling a program, those you can actually resolve by deleting a software program, those you can actually remedy by updating a software program, and those it is possible to resolve by accurately interpreting the contents of an error message.

The problems that center around the installation or un-installation of software applications will be the ones easiest to spot because they traditionally come about shortly after you install or uninstall the offending program. Your best recourse in these conditions is to remove or re-install the software program from the computer (whichever is appropriate) and make a second attempt at the installation of or removing it. If that fails, you may want to update your personal computer's older software applications, most of which could possibly clash with the newest software program additions to your machine.

Perhaps, probably the most difficult software-related issues are those that entail error messages. Not merely must you be capable of translate the contents of these types of messages but you also must discover how to respond to precisely what the messages are trying to tell you.

- Fix hardware. A hardware component that gums up your system is either shot, improperly installed, or not communicating with the rest of your Computer. You have got the enjoyment of finding out which of these is the situation and just how to fix it.

Begin by centering your attention around the components you most recently installed and then update the device drivers for the older computer hardware components within the system.

- Clear out your startup. Part of the Windows startup routine involves starting each of the applications found in the Startup folder. A number of these software programs run in the background, so you might not even know they are running. Your Computer knows, however, and the extra load of those software programs could possibly have it huffing and puffing before you start any applications of your own.

- Update system settings. Under normal conditions, we would most likely hesitate to advise making adjustments to system settings, however, if your personal machine suffers from a serious setback and none of the preceding procedures can correct the matter, then it's time to take extraordinary measures. The initial place to start is with the System Configuration Utility, a trouble shooting resource which will automates the process of pinpointing and solving problems with system files.

If that does not work, you might want to switch your consideration to the Registry and BIOS settings. These advanced adjustments control your system's startup process and also play a substantial role in just about everything else your personal machine does.

- Think about formatting the hard disk. For a lot of computer users, "format" is usually a daunting concept. Nonetheless, periodically this particular DOS command could turn out really helpful. As an example, you should think of reformatting your hard drive and starting over should the MBR (master boot record; a hard drive marker that helps the PC to find information within the drive) is need to be fixed or if a trojan has decimated a great deal of your data on the drive.

Reformatting a disc drive effectively strips it of all data as well as prepares it to accept fresh information. The simplest way to reformat the disc drive is with the FORMAT command.

- Ask for Help The last step involves seeking help from an outside resource. The very best assistance will probably come from your PC manufacturer, nevertheless, you might choose to speak to the appropriate hardware designer or software program developer if you're able to trace your predicament to a particular element of your PC.

In any case, you might want to possess the names, versions, and serial numbers belonging to the troublesome products readily available when you make the phone call. Additionally you need to be prepared to read an account of the troubleshooting steps you've undertaken to date. This makes it easier for the assistance technician to provide the support you'll need. Furthermore, you should expect to pay a fee for the help you obtain as a number of software application designers and computer hardware producers now bill for phone-based technical guidance.

AMD Vs Intel Processors

The battle continues...

Things are about to get very messy in the ongoing battle for processing chip dominance between AMD and Intel. For years, Intel has held the high ground, beating off attack after attack from AMD and holding its own in a marketplace that changes chips every half hour. Intel has always been the big name, the big player and the 'go to guys' for everything Core i3, i5 and i7 orientated.

But all of that could be about to change, if AMD's talks with giant corporation Apple are successful. Intel has been the sole provider of microprocessors for the iconic Apple Notebook and its desktop PCs since 2006, when Apple parted company with PowerPC. AMDs representatives have recently been spotted leaving meetings with members of Apple's top people - and according to hearsay it's been smiles all round.

The meetings have led to Apple starting to take a long, hard look at AMD processors in their research labs as a precursor to the chips being incorporated into some of Apple's up and coming projects. Rumour is that Apple is particularly interested in AMD's workstation and notebook CPUs.

So why is Apple talking to the enemy (as far as Intel are concerned)? It may have a lot to do with the problems that Apple has encountered with Intel processors. Not only were there accusations that the Intel chips slowed the page refresh time for the notebook, but the Intel chipset designs have hindered Apple's plans to continue their partnership with Nvidia to develop a standardised chipset for use with Intel processors across the full range of Apple products. A shortage of the new Core family of chips also delayed the release of the latest version of the MacBook series, which didn't help matters. The result of this has been that Apple has been forced to use the less capable Intel integrated graphics chip inside the new MacBook Pro instead of the more capable Nvidia product.

AMD - up and coming and a potential threat to Intel's dominance

The deal with Apple could undermine Intel's dominance of the marketplace. As a result of Apple's discussions with AMD, more manufacturers are now taking a second look not only at what AMD offers already, but also their plans for future research and development. Admittedly, it could all be a case of corporate manoeuvring on Apple's part to see what Intel step up with as an alternative. But no matter what the reasons, the real winners down the line will be the consumer. Competition, particularly in the technology world, leads to leaps forward in development. New ideas and concepts are the product of debate and competition as each tries to out manoeuvre the other. AMD may lack the performance and efficiency of the Intel processor, but their acquisition of ATI gives them the edge over their rivals when it comes to GPU technology.

Because Apple is focusing on improving its graphics package (name one graphic designer who doesn't use a MacBook), the smart money is on a merger between Apple and AMD, allowing Apple to push forward with the Nvidia plan. But rest assured - Intel isn't just going to sit back and let it happen without a fight. It could all come down to numbers - which is going to profit Apple most; stick with their current partnership or change to a new one with AMD? The most likely probability is that Apple, recently announced as financially bigger than the monolithic Microsoft and therefore a major influence in the direction of the microprocessing marketplace, will most likely end up working with both AMD and Intel. As the old saying goes, those who are at the forefront of microprocessing and graphics capability are living in interesting times...
